MEI's fantastic, eclectic new EP No Steps Back explores the complexity of relationships. Unveiling the final instalment in the seasonal EP trilogy, the South Londoner shares the heart-warming single 'I Don’t Know What’s Next', an ode to self-love and acceptance. MEI explains "this is the most personal song I've ever written. I'm not sure I'm ready to share it, but I need to". The bass-heavy beat and woody horn synth plays an emotive part. MEI's vocals are soft and eloquent with a lovely warmth. The message within the catchy descending hook which declares no fear, no fear no fear is made strong and firm thanks to the use of layered harmony, which is expanded on the second time around (which is bound to give you shivers down the spine). The song ends with an eerie piano tinkle and samples of effected vocal snippets which contributed to Joy Anonymous' left-field style production on this track, which marries perfectly to MEI's catchy, yet humble vocal style.
